Oliver McGowan Training

Background

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training. The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a statutory requirement that regulated service providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

The Oliver McGowan training is the government's preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff.

With this in mind, we are delighted to be able to offer the Oliver McGowan training packages as an approved Oliver McGowan training provider.

Tier 1 - Webinar

This training is a 1-hour webinar, and is delivered by our approved Oliver McGowan trio. This course is aimed at those who may come into contact with individuals with a learning disability or are autistic as part of their day-to-day role.

Tier 2 - Face to face

Delivered by an approved Oliver McGowan facilitator, and 2 approved Oliver McGowan experts with lived experience co-facilitators - one with lived experience of a learning disability and one with lived experience of autism. The Tier 2 training is aimed at those who may need to provide care and support to those with a learning disability or are autistic.

Train the Trainer

It was important to us to have a Lead Trainer status to enable us to support organisations that want to build their internal capacity to deliver the Oliver McGowan programmes themselves. In order to be able to deliver the Oliver McGowan training, you will need to have your approved Oliver McGowan Facilitator and approved Oliver McGowan Co-Facilitators - one with lived experience of a learning disability and one with lived experience of autism.
