Data Security and protection Toolkit

Care and Support West are supporting Care Providers in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath, and North East Somerset to complete the Data Security Protection Toolkit

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an annual self-assessment for health and care organisations. It is an online self-assessment of your organisation’s data security that should be completed by June 30th each year. A new version of the toolkit was released in December 2020.

In our new capacity within the Better Security, Better Care support programme, we are providing you with a timetable of comprehensive webinars, one-to-one support and peer network opportunities to help you along the process - wherever you are in the process. We know there are a lot of different data, digital and cybersecurity projects underway in the health and social care sectors. We are working with our local councils, CCGs, Integrated Care Systems and NHS partners and networks to ensure that the support we offer fits in the best way locally.

By using the DSPT on an annual basis and reaching ‘Standards Met’ you will be able to:

  • reassure people who use services, their families and your staff that you are managing their information safely. Most people expect you to share information with others who support them – but you must do this securely and legally

  • answer the Care Quality Commission’s Key Line of Enquiry questions about how you manage data securely (see KLOE W.2.8)

  • demonstrate that you meet legal requirements including Data Protection Legislation and the Data Security Standards

  • access key services such as NHSmail and shared care records

  • keep I.T. confidential with the latest Digital Social Care resources such as these social care materials from NHS Digital

LET’S GET STARTED

Those familiar with the DSPT will know this process can be lengthy, but recent changes to the toolkit mean it’s now easier and much simpler for you to complete. With our team on hand to assist, the new Better Security, Better Care Programme is set to be more successful than ever before in our region.

We will be offering webinars depending on your starting point. And to supplement these learning opportunities, one-to-one support sessions and chances to swap notes with your peers will also be available.

Find out what’s right for you by clicking an option below or view our upcoming events below. Additional resources, events and opportunities will become available as we go through the process.

The Digital Care Hub (formerly Digital Social Care) have pared down what care providers really need to know about the Data Security and Protection Toolkit and produced a short, snappy animated film.

In less than four minutes, the film looks at how the Data Security and Protection Toolkit helps you to check your data and cyber security policies, procedures and practices – and demonstrate that you have good systems in place.

The film explains the standards that you can reach on the Toolkit, and how this opens up access to shared information systems, and provides reassurance to people who draw on services, families, staff, funders and professional partners. You can also find out more on their website.
