Heat-Health Planning Advice

General overview of weather conditions in relation to the hazard (Heat) next 5 days

Another very warm or hot day is expected on Monday, with light winds and slow-moving showers scattered across England and Wales, heavy and locally thundery. Weather conditions will become more settled and drier from Tuesday onwards, with generally light winds and large amounts of sunshine. Temperatures are expected to remain above average both by day and by night through the period, with daytime maxima in the high 20s for most though trending slightly downwards. A few places may even exceed 30 Celsius on Monday, with a heat health alert currently in place. However, the return of easterly winds on Tuesday will see a shift of the very warm and humid air towards the west, meaning conditions are likely to become less uncomfortable for many in the east, with overnight temperatures widely in the low to mid teens.

The majority of England will most likely be fine and settled initially, with long periods of sunshine and light to moderate winds. Temperatures warmer than average overall with some very warm or hot days and nights, except in the far southwest where often cloudier and breezier with a risk of showers at times. Also perhaps cooler in the east with onshore winds. Showers or thunderstorms may then develop more widely during the second part of this period, along with a gradual cooling trend although this doesn’t preclude brief hot spells.

Towards the end of June and into early July, a region of high pressure may become established for a time, bringing dry and settled conditions for many. However some more mobile low pressure systems could bring rain to the west and northwest although this may take several attempts. Temperatures more likely than not to be above average at first, but trending back towards climatological values.
