Skills for Health: May's latest news is here
Advanced Therapy Clinical Trials Capability Framework launched
We have now launched a new national framework to strengthen advanced therapy clinical trials across the UK.
Developed by Skills for Health, in collaboration with the Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) network, the framework defines the capabilities needed across all roles involved in delivering advanced therapy clinical trials. The framework is an integral part of the development of a UK wide training programme on delivery of advanced therapy clinical trials.
The new framework will help:
Support workforce capability and confidence
Improve collaboration with trial sponsors
Increase access to cutting-edge treatments for patients

Strengthening multi-agency preparedness through the Scenario Informed Resilience Assessment (SIRA)
Resilience isn’t just about plans – it’s about how organisations work together when disruption unfolds.
Our parent organisation, The Workforce Development Trust, partnered with North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) to pilot our Scenario Informed Resilience Assessment (SIRA).
The case study shows how combining readiness assessment with an immersive, multi-agency scenario can provide a clear, system-wide view of preparedness under pressure. And how the insights gained can create real momentum for improvement.
The learning from this case study is highly relevant for healthcare organisations facing increasing operational pressure.
Adopting GenAI in healthcare: key insights from our live panel discussion
If you missed our recent webinar, Adopting GenAI in healthcare: how do I navigate this changing landscape?, you can now read our recap blog featuring key insights from the discussion, alongside the full webinar recording.
The webinar brought together healthcare leaders working at the forefront of GenAI adoption, governance and clinical implementation to explore the realities of navigating this fast-moving landscape in practice.
Moving beyond theory and broad frameworks, the discussion focused on the practical challenges organisations are already facing – from informal “shadow AI” use and workforce confidence to risk, accountability and safe implementation.
Why workforce planning needs to move beyond a central function
When workforce planning sits with one team, or ownership is unclear, organisations can fall into reactive decision‑making and disconnected priorities.
This blog by Skills for Health’s Senior Consultant, Bronwen Hall, explores why shared ownership is essential, how siloed thinking impacts workforce experience, and how the Six Steps Methodology helps teams build the skills needed for integrated, future‑focused planning.
Smarter refresher learning is coming to healthcare
Healthcare organisations are under increasing pressure to maximise workforce capacity while maintaining high standards of compliance and patient safety.
At the same time, staff are often required to repeat full statutory and mandatory training modules regardless of their existing knowledge and competence.
Skills for Health’s forthcoming refresher eLearning modules are designed to help organisations take a smarter, more efficient approach to compliance learning.
Using knowledge-based refresher pathways, learners first complete a short assessment to demonstrate existing understanding. Where appropriate, staff can refresh their training without unnecessarily repeating full modules.
This competency-led approach helps organisations:
Reduce unnecessary repeat training
Save valuable workforce time
Reduce training fatigue
Maintain compliance more efficiently
Support operational productivity
Focus learning where it is genuinely needed.
The goal is not to lower standards, but to deliver learning more intelligently and proportionately.
