Update on planned ICB merger

Today NHS England confirmed that planned ICB mergers will not proceed in 2027 while wider national discussions about devolution and future public sector arrangements continue.

This will allow time for the national picture to become clearer before decisions are made about how future NHS and local government structures fit together.

While this changes the timetable for our merger, it does not change the strong relationships, shared ways of working and joint ambitions that have been developed across our two organisations and with partners.

We remain committed to working closely with partners across our communities to improve health outcomes, reduce inequalities, support neighbourhood health and improve services for local people. Our focus also remains on making the best use of public resources and delivering the priorities we share across our health and care systems.

The progress made through closer working provides a strong foundation for the future. We will continue building on this while supporting effective local partnerships and place-based working.

We recognise that today’s announcement may raise questions. As national and local discussions develop, we will keep partners informed and share updates where there is relevant new information to provide.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
