ENT surgeon urges care homes to prioritise hearing checks as dementia risk overlooked
With one in three people in the UK affected by hearing loss - the issue is particularly relevant in care settings, where older adults are at higher risk. This comes following the launch of Care England’s “Hearing Loss in Care Homes: A Sector-Wide Response”, which revealed that many residents with hearing loss go undiagnosed and unsupported, leading to isolation, and cognitive decline. It also found that access to audiology services and earwax removal remains challenging, despite known risks.
