Care Sector Insight (12.07.2024)
A Message from our CEO
"It has now been two weeks since Ian Trenholm resigned as the Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission. Yet, we have heard nothing publicly from the acting Chief Executive about her plans to steady the ship and rebuild confidence in this discredited organisation.
I was also interested to note that at the last board meeting (held in February), there was no proper discussion about the fact that the IT system does not work and the implications this has for the care sector.
The papers contained a small paragraph which implied that things were getting better. This organisation is in complete denial. If you look at their board meetings, you will see they do not deal with the big issues, rather, they skirt around the edges of problems and occupy themselves in wonderful discussions about equality issues, particularly as they affect their own staff.
The real inequality is how they regulate the various sectors that they oversee. Yet, there is no discussion about openness, transparency, accountability, equity, and fairness in how the organisation operates; instead, there is some handwringing about how the staff feel.
This organisation has "Nero Syndrome". They discuss trivia and leave the real issues unsaid, in the mistaken belief that if you don't talk about it, it hasn't happened. However, the CQC should be under no illusions that they may be silent, but we will not be silenced."
