Care and Support West actions in response to the Autumn Budget 2024 and impact on social care

Thank you to everyone who responded to our survey response request in November to help us understand better the impact of the Autumn Budget announcements for our Social Care Sector. We have used the information provided to estimate the impact of the planned changes to National Living Wage and Employer National Insurance Contributions for Social Care Providers and believe it to be just over £88million across Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset. As your Care Association we have now contacted all the Adult Social Care Directors in our four Local Authorities, together with our Acute system leads to ask for urgent meetings so we can present a joint case to government.

Next Steps:

We believe the true nature of how central our Social Care Provider services are to the national System of Care & Health is not being recognised by Government. There is clearly no understanding of the reality of how we work with our hospitals and local authorities to support the flow of care or the importance of the care you provide to the wider community. The Government acknowledged this during COVID19 but have quickly forgotten the essential nature of the relationship between social care and health.

We would like to demonstrate the true picture of this by capturing data on how many admissions/readmissions & packages of Community Care your organisation has enabled in one month period and have chosen November 2024. Your help with providing this data will support our ongoing meetings and voice to government.

Please complete the attached survey form via the link as soon as you can – we will take your information and anonymise it together with the other information we receive from your colleague providers of adult social care. We will use it in discussions with your local commissioning authorities and build up a data set to inform and influence local government, and our acute health partners to work with them to send a powerful message to central Government.

Thank you for giving this information so we can continue to support these conversations.

Contribute to our more in-depth annual cost pressures report
We produce an annual Cost Pressures report which we submit to each of the four local authorities as well as all relevant councillors and MPs. These are designed to be robust pieces of research providing detailed insights into the current state of social care in this area. Your response is greatly appreciated.
