DSPT Update from John Hodson

The functionality of the DSP Toolkit is being updated to include the Integrated Care Boards.

On the Organisation search screen, if you click Download results as a spreadsheet (CSV file) this now includes the name of the ICB.

This can help generate a list of the DSP Toolkit status of social care organisations in an ICB, if you are ok using excel.

So if you are asked which social care organisations in our ICB have completed the DSP Toolkit

  • Go to organisation search screen on the DSPT: https://www.dsptoolkit.nhs.uk/OrganisationSearch

  • Click Primary Filter and then select social care.

  • Click Download results as a spreadsheet (CSV file)

This produces an excel spreadsheet of DSPT Statuses of social care organisations.

  • Click the Data Menu and then the Filter Icon

  • You can click on the drop-down icon on the first row of column E.

This allows you to select only the ICB/s you are interested in.

Limitations

Only includes organisations who have chosen social care as their primary sector. So if an organisation selected company they would not show up here.

It does not answer, what is the DSP Toolkit status of ALL the social care organisations in our ICB

The impact of a cyber attack - video

We have produced a 5min video on the impact of cyber attacks on social care providers. Please share and use this film through your own channels.

Here’s some short text that you may wish to adapt and reuse in newsletters, websites or other outlets:

The impact of a cyber attack on social care providers

A new video from Better Security, Better Care highlights the impact of cyber attacks on adult social care providers.

The video, which has been launched to coincide with the National Cyber Security Centre’s major conference – CyberUK, looks at the most common cyber attacks that affect social care providers, their impact and how to reduce the risk and impact of a successful attack.

As Dr Jane Townson from the Homecare Association reflects in the video: “Cyber attacks may put you out of business if you don’t take them seriously. It’s a very real and present danger and everyone needs to be very alert and be prepared.”

Daniel Casson, advisor to Care England, reassures providers ““There is so much benefit to care providers and to people using care from using new technology. We have to understand that when we are generating data, we have to use that data responsibly. There is support on this issue, so I don’t want to put people off using technology. I want people to say ‘There’s a richness we can create around the story of the person by knowing their data’.”

Care providers can use the free, official Data Security and Protection Toolkit to check and improve their cyber security arrangements, and access free advice and support from Digital Social Care and the Better Security, Better Care programme.

April-June 2023 plans

Our priorities will be to push for publications to 30 June, and to engage home care providers as a harder to reach audience. We had a really useful Lunch and Learn session on 20 April on plans - see the slides and recording on MS Teams.

Activities will include:

Direct emails from the DSPT Team to remind providers of the deadline, and signpost to support. We are working with the DSPT team to see if we can ensure we receive information about bounce back emails so that we can then advise LSOs which services appear to have out of date administrator emails on their DSPT account. We hope to be able to segment the groups, and messages, as follows and will share copy and timings with you in advance:

  1. Registered in last six months eg since 1 Oct – not published

  2. Registered before 1 Oct – not published (contact details potentially out of date?)

  3. Published – already out of date (ie 2020/21)

  4. Published – due to go out of date by 30 June (i.e published for 2021/22)

  5. HQ published – not fed through to sites

Following feedback from LSOs, we will include messages about checking and updating DSPT status if ownership has been transferred.

Direct mail from the Homecare Association sent to their memberssee copy here. This went out to their members last week.

Mini campaigns aimed at homecare who are NOT registered on DSPT

We have been working with Say to develop a range of messages and resources for you to use aimed at:

  1. All homecare – w/c 1 May

  2. Time poor – w/c 8 May

  3. Unconfident – w/c 15 May

  4. It isn’t for me (eg private clients) w/c 1 June

  5. (Other – paper based, all services)

We aim to produce a toolkit of resources for LSOs to adaptand use including:

  1. About this campaign

    • Whois your target audience?

    • Whatare the most effective levers to engage with them?

    • Key messages

  1. Content by channel:

    • Website

    • Email

    • Newsletter/ Blog

    • Social media posts

  2. Designed assets : We will use Canva initially and test if this works well. We appreciate that NHS organisations may struggle to access this – we are looking into that for you. All assets will be editable for you to adapt and use. And we will run some basic training sessions to ensure you can use them. If you wish to print materials, you will need to cover those costs.

  • Infographicsfor use on social media, websites, presentations etc

  • Postcard

  • Leaflet

  • Poster

  • Mini-survey(tbc)

We will update you on next steps and definite dates for release. But in the meantime, do send comments or questions to Steph or Iris.
