NCF Member Briefing 1/12/23
Enhanced Health in Care Homes
NHS England has published a revised version of the Enhanced Health in Care Homes framework which sets out the principles for delivering proactive, personalised care for people living in care homes including those with learning disabilities or autism, mental ill-health or rehabilitation needs.
This update reflects best practice and new ways of working since the COVID-19 pandemic including the use of digital technology to improve integrated working and information sharing across health and social care teams. It expands on priority clinical areas such as structured medicine reviews, nutrition and hydration, falls prevention, skin and wound care, leg and foot ulcers, mental health, dementia and palliative and end of life care.
The Florence Nightingale Foundation
The Florence Nightingale Foundation, in partnership with Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, would like to remind social care nursing colleagues of an exceptional and transformational leadership development opportunity for global majority nurses.
The programme is open to nurses working in social care organisations across England who have at least three years' post registration experience. The application window closes on 15th December.
More information can be found here.
Cold Weather
HSE has guidance on how to protect workers in low temperatures.
UKHSA also has a cold weather communications toolkit that supports the Adverse Weather and Health Plan (AWHP) and the updated Cold-Health Alerting (CHA) service.
UKHSA detects first human case of A(H1N2)v
Earlier this week UKHSA announced that it had detected a single confirmed human case of influenza A(H1N2)v, similar to one found in pigs. UKHSA is working to understand the characteristics and risk of this strain.
NCF will be monitoring the situation.
Use of AI Notetaking Tools on NCF Calls
Following the use of an AI notetaking app on one of our calls this week, we're asking members to avoid using any AI notetaking apps on NCF calls.
Many of these tools don't appear to warn other attendees, or the hosts, that they are in use, and so members cannot give their permission. We are also concerned that such third-party apps may be able to access email addresses and other information of attendees.
NCF will be looking at how AI can improve the work of the team but we want to first ensure we are able to do this in the most responsible, and data secure way.
Two weeks until online bookings close for winter jabs
