CQC - Letter to Directors of Adult Social Services
Communications from the CQC
Improvement Inspections
I am writing to let you know that this afternoon we have written to every Director of Adult Social Services in England. Please see the attached letter.
We have committed to helping create more capacity for discharge to adult social care by increasing the number of providers with a good or outstanding rating. We anticipate we have capacity to carry out in the region of 300 of these ‘Improvement Inspections’ by the end of March 2023.
We can do this by inspecting providers (care homes and domiciliary care agencies) with a requires improvement rating where our evidence shows there has been improvement. We can also inspect services which are registered and active but not rated, if the lack of regulatory history is a barrier to commissioning. The full criteria are outlined in the attached letter.
We’ve asked Directors of Adult Social Services to help identify care providers where extra capacity might be created.
At our next trade association meeting on 25 January we’ll focus the first half of the session on this - there will be time for questions and reflection.
Because we all care
Today we have launched a spike of the Because we all care campaign which will focus on people who are over 55. You can find more information and a toolkit on our website.
