Hiring this summer? Read this first
The new unfair dismissal rules may not come in until 1 January 2027, but they could affect the people you hire from July 2026 onwards.
Why? Because employees will be able to bring an unfair dismissal claim after just six months’ service. That means a new starter who joins your business this month could reach six months’ service just as the new rules take effect. So, now’s the time to make sure your hiring, onboarding and probation processes are clear, consistent and properly documented.
To help you get ready, Citation have launched their new HR Review: ERA Unfair Dismissal Readiness.
They’ll review your new starter journey, from recruitment and induction through to probation, assess where your business could be exposed to risk, and give you tailored recommendations to help tighten things up.
You’ll walk away with:
A clearer probation process — documented, consistent and built to support confident business decisions
Practical guidance for your managers — so they know what to do, when to do it, and how to handle concerns early
Stronger recruitment and onboarding recommendations — helping you hire well, set people up properly and reduce costly early exits
Better evidence and documentation — with clearer records to support decisions if concerns arise
It can be done on site, remotely, or in whatever way works best for you.
