A Message from the Care England CEO
We have heard a lot in recent weeks from both politicians and the media about the issue of profit and care. The Prime Minister did not talk about profit and care; he talked about “profiteering and care”, and the two are very different issues, but the differences have never been explained in any media focus on this issue.
Nobody in the care sector wants to see profiteering, and there is no evidence that this is going on in adult social care. We have also seen a number of attacks on investors in care. What I would say to anybody who is happy to criticise people who invest in our sector is that if we do not have external investment, we must find money from the taxpayer, and this will amount to billions of pounds. We also hear a lot about what investors take out of the sector, but there is very little discussion of how much they put in and the risks they take with that investment. Over the past 20 years there have been huge amounts of investment that have delivered improvements in care services, and I wish that the media and politicians would focus on the facts, and rather than resorting to unsubstantiated soundbites."
