Dear Care Home Providers
Elizabeth Longdon, Contracts and Commissioning Officer has been invited to be part of some work that Weston Hospice Care and VANs initiated called the ‘Lesser Heard Voices’ collaborative.
It is a project that has evolved organically following some compelling discussions with older gay men who shared anxieties about needing health and social care. They were specifically concerned about what living in a care home would be like and whether they could be openly gay.
The group intends to focus on LGBTQ+ community initially and then explore other lesser heard voices. They currently have and intend to continue having people with lived experience at the meetings.
They would be keen to hear from homes that might like to be part of this work. They don’t meet on fixed dates but aim to meet roughly every 6 weeks. They meet in Weston but have attendees from the North who join when they can or they are conferenced in.
They would also be very keen to hear about examples of good practice from homes and what they are already doing to be inclusive to LGBTQ+ community.
