New data: disruption is rising - and tolerance is low
New YouGov data: Disruption is rising - and tolerance is low
Healthcare organisations are under increasing pressure to maintain services in the face of disruption. Operating in these conditions is becoming the norm.
Our latest poll conducted by YouGov found that:
48% of UK adults experienced significant service disruption in the past year
1 in 5 experienced disruption to utility services
12% experienced disruption to healthcare services
51% say disruption becomes unacceptable within just a few hours.
At the same time, trust is fragile:
31% lose confidence when communication is unclear
30% judge organisations on how quickly services recover.
These findings point to an important shift. Resilience is no longer just about infrastructure or systems - it depends on workforce capability.
Leadership, communication, coordination and recovery all need to function under pressure. And those capabilities cannot be improvised, they need to be developed and tested in advance.
Strengthening workforce resilience
At Skills for Health, we support organisations to strengthen resilience through practical, workforce-focused approaches, including:
Scenario Informed Resilience Assessment (SIRA)
SIRA enables organisations to test how plans, roles and workforce capability hold up under pressure during adverse events, identify gaps in preparedness, and strengthen response and recovery.
Resilience and Emergencies National Occupational Standards
We have launched a consultation on additional National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Resilience and Emergencies in partnership with UK Resilience Academy.
Building on the existing standards, this next phase reflects the need to strengthen resilience at a system-wide, senior leadership level.
Beyond Six Steps Workforce Planning for Resilience
A new programme launching soon to support organisations to embed resilience into workforce planning, ensuring the right capability, capacity and coordination are in place to sustain services during disruption.
