Supporting your staff during Ramadan 2026
Ramadan begins on the 17th February this year and runs until around the 19th March. If you have staff who observe Ramadan, now is a good time to start conversations about how you can support them.
Fasting from dawn to sunset while working in care is demanding. With some planning, you can make adjustments that help your staff feel supported while maintaining safe service delivery.
We've put together two templates you can use:
Individual Staff Fasting Risk Assessment – for one-to-one conversations with staff members about their needs, any risks in their role, and what adjustments might help.

Service Level Impact Assessment – for managers to look at the bigger picture across their team or service, plan staffing, and think through contingencies.

Both are free to use and adapt for your organisation.
A few things to consider:
Have conversations early, before Ramadan starts
Think about shift patterns, break times, and physically demanding tasks
Remember that Eid al-Fitr (20th March) is an important celebration – expect leave requests
Some of your service users may also be observing Ramadan
If you find these useful or have suggestions for improving them, we'd love to hear from you.
