IANS webinar - Introduction to Ageing without Children (AWOC) 17th December 12-1pm

As part of Improving Ageing in North Somerset project including a series of lunchtime webinars and other training opportunities, Voluntary Action North Somerset are putting on a webinar about Ageing without Children which is one of the focus areas for the IANS project

The numbers of people over 65 without adult children are set to double from 1.2 million at  the present time to 2 million by 2030.

At the moment the vast majority of unpaid care for older people is provided by family; 80% of older people with disabilities are cared for by either their spouse or adult children. The older a person is, the more likely they are to be cared for by their adult child yet the number of older people with disabilities who live alone and have no child is projected to increase rapidly, rising by nearly 80 per cent between 2007 and 2032. In addition, evidence shows that adults without children are 30% more likely to be carers for their own parents.

This webinar will give an introduction to the topic looking at

  • Definitions

  • Impact on people who are ageing without children

  • What services and organisations can do to be more AWOC aware

The webinar will be presented by Kirsty Staunton founder of Ageing without Children www.awoc.org.uk with input from local AWOC group leaders
