New web-based assessment for care homes with respiratory outbreaks

 

Since August 2023 the Care OBRA Tool is available for providers to report respiratory outbreaks & infectious diseases via a web-form.

  • Instead of having to call the health protection team and do a questionnaire with them care homes can go to the web link and fill out the form: https://forms.ukhsa.gov.uk/ReportAnOutbreak

  • The HPT will assess this and send them either an advice email or follow up by phone call depending on the situation being reported.

  • Care homes do not need to wait for the HPT advice before taking IPC action – they can implement control measures based on their own assessment if they are confident doing so.

  • The requirements/guidance haven’t really changed.

  • All suspected outbreaks have always needed to be reported and risk assessed with the HPT (this will hopefully just be a more efficient way of doing that).
