Update on energy support for businesses
Please find an update from the Department of Health and Social Care below:
As you will have seen this morning, the Government has provided more detail of support for businesses, including the adult social care sector, with their energy bills over the next six months. The full announcement can be found here: Government outlines plans to help cut energy bills for businesses - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The announcement confirms that for the next six months, Government will provide a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for all non-domestic customers (including all UK businesses, the voluntary sector and the public sector), applying to energy usage from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023. The discount will apply to fixed contracts agreed on or after 1 April 2022 as well as to deemed, variable and flexible tariffs and contracts.
We are aware of providers who are not connected to either the gas or electricity grid and the announcement confirmed that equivalent support will also be provided for those who use heating oil or alternative fuels instead of gas. Further detail on this will be announced shortly, and we will keep you informed when we have more details.
I am keen to hear your thoughts on any areas not covered in the announcement. I would also welcome your views on how we can input into the 3-month review, which will inform decisions on future support after March 2023, to ensure that adult social care is appropriately considered.
If you have any questions which you feel have not been answered in this announcement, please do send them through.
Kind regards
Charlie
