Introducing the New Chair of C&SW

Richard Deverson

New Chair of Care and Support West

Richard is delighted to be taking over from the sterling work of Deian Glyn who in his time as chair has seen the greatest increase in tempo for C&SW. Along with this, the SMT has also guided its membership through the small matter of a world pandemic, and all that entailed for us all.

A care provider since 2008 at Windmill Care, a family run business in South Glos, Richard has seen most of the challenges that working in the sector can bring; through out this time he has been NI for 3 homes with a total of 196 beds and a committed team of 240 staff, life has rarely been dull. As joint Chair of the South Glos care providers forum, Richard has worked closely with the commissioners to ensure that the providers voice is heard at the right level.

A committee member and director of CSW since 2011, he has seen the organisation through some of its most precarious periods; more recently CSW has thrived in a new way, working closely with the ICB and locality Partnerships as part of the long- promised Health and Social Care integration.

With the formation of the ICB and Locality Partnership teams, Richard sits on several working groups representing CSW, from the Locality Delivery Teams to the Strategic Providers Group and is part of the Commissioning Transformation work in South Glos.

Richard remains passionate and driven to ensure that our membership is supported to deliver the highest quality to those who we care for, making the best use of new innovations and technologies as available. He also is a part time consultant undertaking work with the DSPT team in CSW, as well as using his experience to support any provider who may be feeling regulatory pressure following a CQC assessment or any LA Safeguarding enquiry.

CSW and our engagement with the ICS may be pressured whilst funding decisions are finalised within the ICBs. With this is mind, Richard looks forward to working with the CSW SMT to capitalise on opportunities where we can contribute effectively, though above all ensuring that we support our membership to ensure we remain relevant to the wider system.
