Session 3 - Supervising, Mentoring and Appraising Staff
Supervision is a live ongoing process that includes regular and frequent meetings between staff members and nominated supervisors to discuss work issues and provide development and support. Appraisal, on the other hand, is a formal process to assess the performance of an employee over a particular period. In healthcare settings it usually involves annual meetings to review the previous 12 months’ performance, to reflect on practice, to set objectives for the coming year and to plan personal development.
